WOMEN IN TECH - Global Movement and Women in Tech South-Africa opened our first IT Learning center in Philippi Village to give free IT and digital skills training to the children in surrounding townships. The surrounding areas are some of the poorest areas in the Western Cape, with over 80% of children not having access to devices, data or a digital education. This learning centre will provide a safe space for them to come and learn, do homework, apply for work, jobs or university, and has given hope to so many. The Philippi Village project was initiated in 2021, where Advisory Board Member of WIT – SA Aluta Moshani – grew up in Gugulethu, a township in Cape Town. Aluta had so much passion for the community and wanted to give back, by helping the youth acquire digital skills and get access to technology.💡 Building the Centre also gives the youth access to programs facilitated by Women in Tech South-Africa which include Mentorship Programs, Digital Skills Training, Basic Coding Skills, in addition to programs, internet access, which allows time for homework, and other research needs. Generous contributions have been made by Sanlam and IOCO, donating Computer Devices, and Furniture, which has helped to make this project a success.💪 Women in Tech® is the engine for driving change in communities through technology and empowering more women and girls to embrace STEM, which continues to be our ultimate goal.🔥🔥
